Undoing Sun Damage

As the cooler months approach, many of my clients notice the damage to their skin accumulated over the summer; most notably pigmentation and redness, making the skin look blotchy and uneven. What can we do about it? Well, there is a plethora of fantastic skincare treatments out there.

Intense Pulsed Light is a favourite because it’s quick, inexpensive and has no downtime. It treats very superficial pigmentation and broken vessels. If you want and need a more aggressive approach to addressing sun damage though, Fraxel is fantastic.

I love the results we get with Fraxel laser because it improves skin tone, texture and health all at once. It significantly lightens pigmentation, stimulates new collagen and resurfaces the skin, removing built up dead skin cells, leaving the skin clearer, smoother and healthier. The difference a single treatment makes to the skin is remarkable.

Having a treatment usually takes 90 mins. Topical analgesia is applied for your comfort. After the treatment your skin will feel hot for a few hours. There is a small amount of social downtime – about 2-4 days, but a week later the results are clear for all to see.

Fraxel isn’t for everyone though, and like all medical skin treatments, needs to be performed by a qualified and experienced medical professional. The Clear Complexions registered nurses have performed over 3000 of these procedures, so if it is time to sort out your skin and you are not sure what is right for you, they are the perfect people to ask. And, as always, prevention is the best treatment so don’t neglect your sunscreen, even during the cooler seasons!
