Your eyes are the windows to your soul…

Some say that our eyes are the ‘windows’ to our soul.  This is a rather large responsibility, especially when we consider that every day we express ourselves through smiling and frowning. We squint in bright sunshine and we blink up to 70, 000 times per week! When the skin around our eyes is ten times thinner than on our faces, it is no wonder this area is almost always the first that gives our age away.

Intrinsic and extrinsic ageing is a reality for us all. Intrinsic aging is how we are pre-programed to age – it’s in our genes. Extrinsic aging is accelerated aging, ahead of our chronological age, caused primarily, and up to 90%, by UV damage but also instigated by other lifestyle factors such as pollution, smoking, alcohol and medications.

Intrinsic aging specific to the eye area involves skeletal changes as well as laxity to the ligaments, causing concerns we often hear clients complain about such as ‘hooding’ and ‘bags’. Extrinsic factors include UV accelerated collagen and elastin loss, leading to thin, dehydrated skin that somewhat resembles crepe paper.

With our souls relying on these window frames to do us some sort of justice, we must act now!

The wonderful news is, we can address this situation both proactively and reactively. For minimal investment into the eye area, you can reap rather fast and extremely effective results. Here’s how;

  1. ‘Hooding’ can be treated with skin tightening technology. Ultraformer III is the world’s most cutting-edge treatment of its kind right now because it works!
  2. ‘Crows-feet’ wrinkles can be softened by toxin treatment but to effectivey treat the skin in this area, you need to stimulate new collagen and elastin. Fractionated lasers like Fraxel re:store Dual outside the orbital rim are incredible for just that and are a must for us all, at least once a year.
  3. ‘Under eye wrinkles’ and ‘bags’ can only be effectively treated with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) as lasers can’t be used within the orbital rim for obvious reasons.
  4. ‘Dark circles’ are addressed by feeding your skin. Strong antioxidants like vitamin A and peptides in your eye cream will control the environmental damage and stimulate much needed collagen and hyaluronic acid. Don’t waste time and money on over the counter products -prescribed cosmeceutical eye creams only!

If you were to ask me what concerns me most as I age, I’d say without hesitation it would be the area around my eyes, so I try to stay one step ahead. Strategically combining technologies appropriate to the eye area and applying a cosmeceutical eye cream each day is the solution to keeping our ‘windows’ in premium shape and fit for the job of showcasing our souls.
