Sagging Skin

“Have you ever stood in front of the mirror and pulled the skin on your face back to where it used to be? Unfortunately sagging skin and loss of elasticity is just a part of ageing. The good news is that we have a range of treatments that can help put the spring back into your skin.”
—Suzie X.

The problem

Ageing and excessive environmental damage cause your skin’s collagen and elastin to break down faster than your body can rebuild them, causing your skin to lose elasticity. As a result you develop wrinkles and pockets of loose, sagging skin. The effects of age are typically most noticeable first around the eyes, where skin is delicate and thin. But over time loss of elasticity in the cheeks causes sagging skin around the mouth and the development of jowls.

What causes it?

The most common cause of sagging skin is due to several age-related conditions: loss of collagen and elastin, which gives skin its elasticity, loss of facial fat – which makes our skin look soft, plump and youthful; and the weakening of facial muscles. Sun exposure can also cause skin to lose its elasticity more rapidly, by damaging our skin cells.
