Psoriasis

“Psoriasis is a non-contagious, inflammatory, immune based skin condition that affects more than 2% of Australians. It can cause great discomfort and for some, may even result in hospitalisation. But utilising cutting-edge technology, we can effectively treat and manage this condition without the use of prescription drugs or steroids.”

The problem

Psoriasis can range from a chronic irritation to a debilitating condition that can cause physical pain and impairment—not to mention emotional distress. There are many types of psoriasis and for most people, this condition requires some form of lifelong management to prevent and treat flare ups.

The cause

The cause of psoriasis is unknown, although it usually affects those with a family history. It can be triggered through factors such as systemic, viral and bacterial infections, smoking, drug interaction, high alcohol consumption, highly processed foods and stress. Once triggered, the immune system produces an excessive number of skin cells and as such, psoriasis has been classified as an auto-immune skin disorder. There is no cure—but it can be effectively managed.
