Clear Complexions is delighted to be able to offer the Omnilux Medical™ Photodynamic therapy to their clients in Canberra for the first time. This cutting edge LED technology was developed by Manchester University, in conjunction with two leading cancer prevention companies in the United Kingdom. Based on the cancer research, Omnilux™ was further developed as a non-surgical light therapy to stimulate the skins own renewal process.
The Omnilux Medical™ LED system consists of three different wavelengths; infrared (Omnilux plus™), red (Omnilux revive™) and blue (Omnilux blue™). These specific wavelengths excite particular cell activity and depending on the specific condition you are treating, can now offer clients a non-invasive treatment that promotes healthy skin function.
What conditions can the Omnilux Medical™ treat?
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne
- Rosacea
- Wound healing and scar reduction
- Psoriasis
Fine lines and wrinkles
If your skin is feeling tired and environmental damage is starting to take its toll, the Omnilux Medical™ is incredibly effective at rejuvenating your skin. As we age, the structural integrity of the skin is compromised, especially in the Australian climate, resulting in thinner skin, wrin
kles and capillary damage.
To essentially ‘kick’ the skin back five or so years in terms of its strength, elasticity and overall health, we use the Omnilux plus™ in combination with Omnilux revive™. This takes advantage of the Omnilux revive’s™ incredible stimulatory effect on the fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin, as well as the Omnilux plus™ which stimulates cells called fibro-myoblasts. Fibro-Myoblasts are responsible for the nice, tight, even structure of collagen and elastin in young skin and are extremely beneficial when wanting to stimulate a tightening of the collagen bundles. The Omnilux plus™ also stimulates cells responsible for ridding the skin of toxins.
It is this combination of different light wavelengths that results in a noticable softening of fine lines and pore size as well as an overall more youthful appearance to the skin.
“You can see why we are so excited! If I could only do one treatment in the clinic, this one would be it. I love it.” Suzie
How many treatments do I need?
Clinical trials show ten treatments are recommended. These are done twice a week over a five week period. The treatments are completely pain-free and are 20 minutes in duration. We will use a preparatory solution on your skin prior to the treatment to enhance the penetration of the light.
Many clients are already experiencing the added benefits and enhancement of combining Omnilux with procedure peels, Clear + Brilliant, microdermabrasion and a tailored skincare regimen. The Omnilux revive™ and plus™ course can also be successfully used with Botulinum toxin eg. Botox® or Dysport® injections, as well as fillers to quickly reduce the swelling and bruising that can occur and to make the results last longer.
Acne
Acne, one of the worlds most common and debilitating skin conditions can now be effectively treated with this exciting new technology. Acne develops when the sebaceous glands in the skin produce too much oil, clogging the pores and spreading bacteria, leading to inflammation, reddening and breakouts.
The bacteria that cause acne are sensitive to blue light. The Omnilux blue™ works to stop the spread of this bacterium by delivering a laser-free wavelength of light which penetrates deep into the layers of the skin to stimulate the production of chemicals which destroy the bacterium.
When combined with the Omnilux revive™, which has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect, the Omnilux™ treatment reduces the production of acne causing bacterium and excess oil, resulting in the reduction of inflammation, redness and acne lesion, leaving the skin clearer and healthier.
The addition of the infrared wavelength of the Omnilux Plus™ in the clinics further provides the nurses at Clear Complexions with the ability to treat stubborn and cystic acne. When treating cystic, hormonal and stubborn acne, your nurse will choose the best combination of Omnilux medical lights to stimulate the skin’s immune cells. This stimulation reduces painful inflammation and bacterial numbers while speeding healing and strengthening the natural function of the skin.
How many treatments do I need?
An Omnilux Medical™ treatment takes 30 mins to perform. At Clear Complexions, our nurses prepare the skin using a rapid exfoliation. Generally eight treatments over four weeks are required and then a maintenance treatment of once a month is recommended. Depending on the severity of the acne, Procedure Peels will be performed during the treatment period to get the best results..
Rosacea
Rosacea is actually one of the most common skin disorders, affecting 1 in 20 Australians and yet very little is known about its causes. Starting with facial flushing, rosacea usually progresses to persistent redness, thickening of the skin, visible capillaries and then to painful inflammation and raised red bumps. It is embarrassing and very difficult to hide.
The Omnilux Medical™ management of rosacea focuses on the use of the Omnilux red™ and in some cases the Omnilux plus™. This combination of light stimulates the cells essential for boosting the immune function, clearing damaged tissue and building new cells to form healthy new tissue. This treatment can be also used to calm the flare ups that inevitably occur.
How many treatments do I need?
A courses of ten treatments over five weeks is recommended with monthly on-going treatments for maintenance of the rosacea and to continue to improve the skin’s overall health.
Wound healing and scar reduction
“For anyone considering surgery, the Omnilux plus™is an absolute must, both before, to prepare the skin, and after, to encourage rapid wound healing and scar reduction.”
The Omnilux plus™penetrates 8-12 mm into the skin, stimulating the wound healing
response, reducing healing time and scar formation. If you have been unlucky enough to have suffered a traumatic injury or are thinking of having surgery, utilising the Omnilux plus™ as soon as possible after the event will increase the wound healing time and make a dramatic difference in the scar tissue formation.
The number of treatments required varies greatly depending on the severity and type of the wound. Your nurse will be able to advise you on this.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a condition which impacts one to two percent of the population. It can be a constant source of physical and emotional distress.
There are many prescription and non prescription topical choices that can be used but as many sufferers will tell you they don’t often work for long. Many people will end up with a pile of prescriptions to cycle through in the hope that a combination will provide some degree of relief at least for a while. Light therapy has also been used to help boost the body’s vitamin D levels important in good immune function. These light therapies usually use a form of ultraviolet (UV) light which can of course can carry its own risks and are often not readily available.
The Omnilux Medical™ management of psoriasis focuses on the use of the Omnilux plus™ alone. The infrared light of the Omnilux plus™ stimulates the cells essential for destroying bacteria, clearing damaged tissue and building new cells to form healthy new tissue. This treatment can offer a drug and UV free alternative to help boost the immune function and calm the flare ups that inevitably occur. The Omnilux plus™ is also able to be used with topical treatments when appropriate.
Suzie is constantly striving to provide the highest quality medical treatments and products to positively impact the lives of her clients. This treatment while simple in its non-invasive action is already changing lives.
“Psoriasis has always been a particularly difficult condition to treat and incredibly frustrating for people who suffer from it. It is truly delightful to see clients who finally have control over their psoriasis by using the Omnilux Plus.”
