Our story

“Clear Complexions is about good skin health and healthy skin is beautiful.”

Suzie Hoitink, founder of the Clear Complexions Clinics

Why Clear Complexions?

I know it sounds cliched but to tell you how Clear Complexions Clinics came about I first have to tell you about myself and my struggle with my own skin issues.

As a young teenager I thought that I had escaped the ravages of acne. I looked at some of my friends who suffered the condition and thanked my lucky stars that I wasn’t affected.  Around the age of 17 that all changed.

I started to develop deep cystic acne on my forehead, cheeks and chin. I became depressed and reclusive. I grew my fringe, wore hats and used thick make up to hide my face. I tried every lotion, potion and pill with little relief. I remember the frustration of not having anywhere to go to get a straight answer about what I should use on my skin and what treatments, if any, would help.

To add to my skin care misery, I developed brown pigmentation on my face after having my two beautiful girls. Could this get any worse? Thirty years old with acne and brown patches on my face! Time to get this sorted.

The quest for answers

After graduating with my nursing degree I went and worked in the hospitals still suffering from bad skin. Light based therapies were beginning to make their way into plastic and cosmetic surgeries and given my history, I was immediately attracted to the field. I began working for a cosmetic surgeon who was dabbling in the non-invasive procedures as a sideline to his surgery. He tasked me with educating myself and looking after this side of his practice.

The problem was that this was an addition to his surgery and he wasn’t serious about treating skin.  I knew deep down that a nurse would be ideal for this. I became totally obsessed with learning all there was to know about treating skin and set about getting myself an education from the leaders in this new industry. I travelled to many parts of Australia regularly to be mentored by Australia’s leading professionals.

The Clinics

In 2005 I founded the Clear Complexions Clinic. It was an immediate success.  We individualised each treatment and got the very best equipment.  I made it mandatory that only nurses treat clients.  This allowed us to source equipment that wasn’t available to those without a medical background and ensured the safety of our clients.

Essentially what we were able to do was pull all the elements together. We combined the best people with the best equipment.  We gave our clients the time they deserved. We didn’t see them for ten minutes and write out a script.

Why nurses?

I get asked all the time why we only have nurses treating our clients? The answer is really simple, they are the very best people for the job.  Not only are they highly skilled in performing treatments, they understand the importance of ongoing assessment and support for our clients.

Nurses are medically trained, not aesthetically trained. Good skin is about the health of your skin. They understand the science of the skin and implement a plan for each client which addresses improving the health of their skin, as well as preventing further damage.

My commitment to you

I can help you with your skin, and if I can’t, I can point you in the right direction for answers.  The nurses and I are committed to giving you educated and honest advice about your skin, and empowering you to do something about it once and for all.

The clinics are about achieving healthy skin for our clients. There is no silver bullet, it is about knowing how to put the right combination of skincare and treatments together for each individual and establishing a plan to keep your skin healthy going forward. It is what our nurses do and we are good at it.

I am committed to continuously bringing the latest technology into the clinics. New developments happen quickly in this industry and we are constantly travelling both here and abroad to keep the clinics at the forefront.

If there is a treatment or skincare product out there that works, I will bring it into the clinics and I will continue to have the most educated nurses in the country delivering those treatments.

Contact me directly. I treat clients in our clinics every day. If I can help you in any way, please contact me on suzie@clearcomplexions.com.au or click here to book a consultation.

Suzie
