No one likes to look their age. Even worse, the effects of our harsh Australian environment and other factors like diet, smoking and lifestyle can often cause premature ageing leaving us looking even older. At Clear Complexions Clinics our nurses can help to turn back the clock and iron out those unwanted fine lines and wrinkles with the latest approved, non-invasive technologies, treatments and medical grade skincare.
How do wrinkles (rhytides) form?
Some of us will be showing the signs of ageing and others of us want to prevent ageing as much as possible. Whichever category you feel you fall into, we can all agree that healthy, glowing skin automatically makes us look and feel younger.
As skin ages it begins to drop, developing wrinkles, lines and furrows. The impact of gravity, genetics, loss of elasticity, sun damage, surgery, muscle movement and the chemical deterioration of smoking begin to show their effects on the skin.
Fine lines begin to occur due to an uneven thickening of the dermis (a layer of tissue deep in the skin) magnified by a decrease in the moisture held in the skin.
Deeper lines or furrows are classified as dynamic or static. Dynamic lines appear with movement or activity of the facial muscles. Crow’s feet around the eyes for example, are due to smiling and squinting. Hours in front of the computer staring at the screen will start to show the same types of dynamic lines. As we get older these dynamic lines become static or unmoving and become a permanent expression, often making people look permanently angry or worried.
Loss of elasticity or skin laxity will add to the aged look as a reduction of underlying fat cells causes skin to thin and sag. This laxity affects the skin’s appearance in many different ways. For example the upper and lower eyelids become baggy, earlobes elongate, skin under the chin becomes loose, lips thin and the list goes on.
There is hope however! Remarkable improvements can be achieved often with a combination of treatments and medical grade skincare, improving the texture, tone and elasticity and leaving the skin more youthful in appearance.
Treatments
- Injectable anti-wrinkle treatments: Botulinum toxin (e.g. Botox) is useful for softening and preventing dynamic lines. It can be used to paralyse the muscles that are responsible for frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. It can also be used to lift the eyebrows. Fillers (e.g. Juvederm) can fill lines and wrinkles and add to a more youthful appearance.
- Omnilux Medical will essentially ‘kick’ the skin back five or so years in terms of its strength, elasticity and overall health, we use the Omnilux plus™ in combination with Omnilux revive™ to visibly improve fine lines and wrinkles
- Procedure peels unblocks pores and exfoliates skin for a fresher appearance
- Microdermabrasion gently polishes off the top layer of skin giving a fresher appearance
- Fraxel Restore Dual® helps the skin to grow new collagen to soften lines and wrinkles, reduces scarring and removes pigmentation
- Intense Pulsed Light enables pigmentation to be brought to the surface and flaked off by the skin, collapses facial capillaries to reduce redness
Does skincare help?
Yes it does, and it’s important to recognise that there is a difference between medical grade skincare and other skincare. For skincare to give you the best possible impact it needs to be tailored to your own unique skin to ensure that your skin’s specific needs are met. The nurses at Clear Complexions Clinics are able to assess your skin and prescribe a regimen based on cosmeceutical ingredients that support and improve your skin’s natural, healthy function. Common anti-ageing ingredients we use include retinaldehyde (Vitamin A), niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and Vitamin C.
It’s important to use a sunscreen that not only prevents you from burning but one that physically blocks the sun to prevent pigmentation such as the zinc-based ’Face SPF 30+’ .
