If spider or thread veins on the legs are seriously cramping your style, stopping you from wearing shorts and skirts, our nurses have the answer.
What causes leg veins?
The most common causes of leg veins are:
- Age
- Genetics
- Hormonal fluctuations
- Pregnancy
- Medical conditions that effect circulation
- Occupations/jobs that involve standing for long periods
How do we treat leg veins?
We can treat those small vessels that typically appear on your upper and lower legs without the need to use painful injections and constrictive stockings. These vessels respond brilliantly to Intense Pulsed Light which works by emitting a specific wavelength of light that is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the vessel. This light is converted to heat on absorption and heats up the vessel walls, injuring them, and causing them to collapse down.
How many treatments?
As a general rule, anywhere between four to ten treatments are required, spaced weekly for three weeks then reviewing after a three to four week break. Factors that affect the number of treatments required before the vessels collapse down are size of the vessel, the length of time they have been visible, the general health of the skin and any underlying medical causes for the vascular damage. This is where our nurses will advise you at your consultation.
